The Journey is the Reward

In 2004, we decided to realize a long trip we have been dreaming of for close to ten years. In a timeframe of one year, we visited 14 fascinating countries of the Northern Hemisphere.

We traveled mainly by our Toyota Landcruiser HDJ 82 that we equipped as an offroad RV to gain flexibility, the reliability, and some comfort in accessing beautiful and authentic, but often secluded places. Between Europe, Americas, and China, we travelled by air. And for additional adventure and fitness, we used touring bicycles, and down the wind our kitesurfing equipment (;))

The trip offered us a big opportunity to fill the time with all we had little capacity to do as employed professionals: To finish a PhD, to learn Mandarin, to experience nature, to recharge batteries, to meet all sorts of people, and to continue learning intensively about the different ways to think and to do things. In many respects, the sabbatical was the best year of our lives.

We found our journey so stimulating and inspiring that we use every opportunity to continue travelling.

Two new chapters are online:

Northern Thailand : After a short stay in Bangkok, drive with us through the rice fields dotted with Lanna temples, up to the hill tribes of the Nan- and Phayao provinces. A trek in a flowering jungle follows, with a cooling bath in a emerald pool under the waterfalls. Let's then have a traditional massage and a spicy meal.







Sardinia : Unter the dramatic skys of Porto Ferro, let's enjoy some playful waverides along the rocky shoreline. The bike trail up and down the sandy trek under large trees reminds of the Amazonian. In Castelsardo, world's best polpo in arancia awaits, accompanied by a glass of "Isola dei Nuraghi" wine, followed by a choice of "Dolce Sardi".

We have re-organized our Logbook! The travel destinations are now structured according to their geographic location, which should it make easier for you to get to the places you are interested in.

Some new chapters are online, too:
Visit the beautiful wildlife of the Igarapes of Piaui, Brasil or feel the joy of life in the friendly fisher villages.





January, 2007
Views of traditional adobe residences set in the oasis of date palms, marble-and-gold palaces of Sultan Qaboos, men dressed in pastel-colored dishdash robes with a khanjar dagger tucked into the belt and the smell of the coffee with cardamon over the desert-wood fire in Northern Oman send the traveller straight into the stories of Thousand and one Nights. But modern bedouins travel by car.





January, 2007
Pictures of Southern Oman will take you to biblical frankincense forests, to the dancing folks of Arabia and Zanzibar, to the world's only fishing bedouins, to golden, rosa and white beaches, to the playful dolphins, to the arabian oryx sanctuary, to the fjords of the south, to the poisonous but charming bottle trees, to the wandering camel herds and to the endless sands of the Rub al Khali.






September, 2006
Shiny white sands, smiling fishermen and farmers, abundant marine life, fantastic kitesurfing, and "Camel Trophy" with Yves and Anna: a stay in Ceara of Brasil is just unforgettable.








Autumn, 2006
In Alsace, charming medieval villages with narrow, concentric streets and half-timbered houses nestle in folds of green hills and vineyards. The local cuisine has a long tradition and a strong taste.




Whole Year Round
Mountain peaks covered by glaciers, steep valleys, rushing waterfalls, carpets of alpine flowers,grazing steinbock families, shadowy chestnut forests, rustico houses, cheese fondue, chocolate factories, old monasteries, Fastnacht carnival, Montreux Jazz Festival and mega techno party Street Parade: be it Western or Central Switzerland, Zurich or the Wallis mountains, every region has something to offer.
